I used to have a friend in High School who would always prefer that I drove whenever we went somewhere. I didn't mind because I liked driving. But, after a couple of years of the same scenario playing out, I finally realized a few things. My friend had a car, he just chose not to drive. My car was an '88 Chevy Cavalier (don't be jealous). His car was a '66 Chevy El Camino with a 327 engine. If you know anything about cars, you know that there is a big difference in the gas mileage between the two. His was a muscle car, mine was more economical. He would much rather hitch a ride with me (knowing I was paying for gas), then pay for the gas it would take to drive his own car.

Do you know anybody that prefers to "catch a ride?" You know, people that rely on you to drive them where they need to go. Maybe that person is you. Do you rely solely on the spiritual strength of someone else (pastor, teacher, close friend) to encourage and empower you to be the man or woman that God has called you to be?

There is great encouragement in this verse..

"Take the time and trouble to keep yourself spiritually fit." I Timothy 4:7b

If you've been "hitching rides" everywhere because you have no gas in your tank, my encouragement to you today is..FILL UP! We have everything we need to keep ourselves spiritually fit. Open up God's Word and allow His Spirit to have full reign in your life!! You'll get to go more places AND it doesn't cost anything but your time!

Catching rides is good and necessary at times, just don't rely on that as your only source of transportation!!
